BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth frown lines between the brows, along side the eyes, forehead lines, and neck lines in people from 18 to 65 years of age. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time. It is injected in very small amounts into the muscles which contract to cause the lines and helps to soften the movement of the muscles so it is harder to form the lines. When given in small amounts it will not completely paralyze the area — just soften the movements.
